Rethinking academic integrity when every student has AI

Detection tools alone won't hold the line. Clear expectations and better task design will.

Many schools reached for AI detection software first. It is an understandable instinct, but false positives damage trust and confident students quickly learn to work around it.

A stronger approach combines three things: a clear policy students understand, assessment that captures the process as well as the product, and conversations that treat AI use as a skill to be learned.

When students know exactly where the line sits, most of them stay on the right side of it.
